ANA and Air India are gearing up

ANA and Air India are set to launch a collaborative effort in late May, initiating codeshare flights aimed at capturing a substantial portion, 40%, of the passenger traffic between Japan and India. Under this agreement, ANA's Haneda-Delhi and Narita-Mumbai routes, alongside Air India's Narita-Delhi route, will be integrated, marking a significant stride for ANA since its 2019 partnership with Jet Airways concluded.

By codesharing, airlines can streamline ticket sales for partner flights, offering passengers greater convenience while bolstering passenger volumes. Both ANA and Air India are members of the Star Alliance, further solidifying their cooperation.

ANA foresees this collaboration catapulting its market share in the Japan-India route to 40%, outpacing its competitor Japan Airlines. The airline envisions extending the partnership to encompass domestic codeshare flights within India, with a keen focus on key cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai.

India's aviation sector has witnessed remarkable growth, fueled by economic expansion and a burgeoning population. In 2023, domestic air travel soared to 150 million passengers, with projections indicating sustained growth. According to the International Air Transport Association, India is poised to emerge as the world's third-largest aviation market by 2030, trailing only behind China and the United States.
