Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) has announced an open bid for contractors to build a new parking facility to accommodate increased demand from travelers and employees. The state government plans for the parking facility to be situated near the intersection of Ualena and Paiea Streets, providing approximately 5,200 new parking spots to serve both the public and airport staff.
In addition to parking spaces, the structure will feature office space and a shuttle bus station for convenient access to airport terminals. With an estimated budget of $350 million, the project will cover costs related to design, demolition, and construction. This expansion effort also involves the termination of existing leases for businesses currently operating on the proposed site.
Although the new structure’s location is distant from the main terminal at present, long-term plans include an extension of Terminal 2 that will bring it closer to the parking area. This project underscores HNL’s commitment to enhancing traveler experience and addressing capacity challenges amid growing demand for efficient airport facilities in Hawaii.
