International Airlines Commence Operations at Gautam Buddha International Airport

Bhairahawa, Nepal – December 26, 2024

Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) in Bhairahawa has recently welcomed the initiation of regular international flights, marking a significant milestone in its operational history.

Flydubai's Inaugural Flights

Flydubai commenced its services on November 9, 2024, offering daily flights on the Dubai-Bhairahawa-Kathmandu-Dubai route. According to the approved schedule, Flydubai's aircraft arrive in Bhairahawa at 1:45 PM and depart for Dubai via Kathmandu at 3:30 PM.

Jazeera Airways Resumes Services

After a ten-month hiatus, Kuwait's Jazeera Airways resumed operations at GBIA on October 28, 2024. The airline conducts flights three times a week—on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—arriving in Bhairahawa at 7:30 AM and departing for Kuwait at 8:30 AM.

Thai AirAsia's Prospective Entry

Thai AirAsia has expressed interest in launching services at GBIA. A technical team from the airline recently assessed the airport's facilities, though a definitive start date for operations has yet to be announced.

Government Initiatives and Infrastructure Readiness

The Nepalese government has implemented measures to attract international airlines to GBIA, including offering fuel discounts and ticket subsidies. All necessary arrangements, encompassing immigration, customs, and security services, are in place to support these international operations.

The commencement and resumption of these international flights are anticipated to enhance regional connectivity, boost tourism, and contribute to the economic development of the Lumbini Province and Nepal as a whole.
