Due to the closure of Tribhuvan International Airport for 10 hours, multiple flights from various airlines were canceled or reduced. During this period, the high tourist season in Nepal and the major Nepali festivals significantly increased the number of air travelers. Consequently, there have been public complaints about exorbitant airfare prices due to the mismatch between demand and supply.
In this context, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) clarifies that its airfare rates have been set according to market demand and supply principles and are within the range of fares charged during the same period last year, based on available aircraft and seat capacity. NAC requests the public to report with evidence if any black-market profiteering or overcharging beyond the regulated rates has been observed, ensuring strict action against violators.
Following special directives from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, NAC, as the national flag carrier, has decided to offer discounts on its international sector fares. Tickets with the following discounts are available at NAC's international ticket sales offices:
- For Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore sectors: Discounts of up to NPR 2,500 on market fares.
- For Doha, Dubai, Dammam, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Narita sectors: Discounts of up to NPR 5,000 on market fares.
These discounts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis based on seat availability, and passengers must present valid identification to claim them.
Additionally, under NAC's social responsibility initiatives, from November 1 to 22, 2024, the corporation provided the following discounts:
- 100% discount on Kathmandu–Delhi–Kathmandu airfare to 37 cancer patients based on doctor’s reports and recommendations from the Nepal Cancer Relief Society.
- 50% discount for 33 caregivers of these patients.
- 15% discount for 21 government employees.
NAC hopes these efforts provide some relief to affected individuals and their families.
