Washington, D.C. – Two small planes have collided in the skies above an airport in Arizona, resulting in the deaths of two people, officials have reported.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), a Cessna 172S and a Lancair 360 MKII collided near Marana Regional Airport, northwest of Tucson, at 8:28 AM. The two single-engine aircraft reportedly crashed above Runway 12.
Following the collision, the Cessna managed to land, but the Lancair aircraft caught fire near another runway, the NTSB stated. Two people have been confirmed dead, with reports indicating that each aircraft had two occupants.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the airport remains closed until further notice.
